Columbus Day Is Still One Of Our Most Misguided Celebrations

I know I’m a few days late with this video, but it is never too late to point out how screwed up our history lessons are, especially when it comes to how different cultures are depicted.

  1. Good video. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t celebrate Columbus day. I don’t think Columbus should have a day in his honor. There are so many other people who deserve a day in their honor, but they don’t have one.

Good for you. We don’t celebrate it either. I don’t think most people really pay attention to it, and think of it as a day for store sales. But the principle is that we as a country shouldn’t even have an official holiday honoring someone like Columbus. As you say, so many more people to honor. And I agree with the video, there should be a day honoring Native Americans.

In a few states, there is a Native American day. California’s Native American day is in September and South Dakota’s is sometime this month, it might have already passed though. I think Native American day needs to be an official holiday though.

November is Native American heritage month, but I don’t think many people know that. I haven’t met anyone yet that knows it.

      • Earnest Harris says:

See you have educated me. I didn’t even know that November is Native American Heritage Month. Thanks for telling me that. Agree there should be a national holiday though considering our country’s history and the history of Native People.
