Are Racist People Just Dumb? Well, A New Study Suggests So.

Closed attitudes come from closed minds.

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

Oh Wow. This is something I always suspected but now there is evidence of it. Oh boy, this is going to be controversial. But let’s be honest. It makes sense. Racism is dumb. It makes no sense. So logically it makes sense that people who are racist just aren’t thinking very much. Believe me, I have gotten into debates online with racist people and often I walk away shaking my head as I realize how impossible it is to use logic and reasoning with these people.

OMG wow I suspected this too the racist people were just, there is no other word: dumb. I have also gotten into countless debates with racist whites online and it seems to be impossible to sway or reason with them, they usually remain steadfast in their backward mentality concerning race. I put racist whites in two categories:1) whites who’ve, according to them, personally felt like they have been harassed, ridiculed, humiliated, put down, beaten up by black/s. 2) whites who have done something racist towards blacks/a black person and the guilt is eating them alive. These whites feel so guilty about past injustices that they try to rid this strain on their brains by coming up with an excuse to absolve themselves from any personal responsibility. “Closed attitudes come from closed minds.”

I hear you on that. I think you are right that on a certain level, racism is a disease of the mind and those afflicted with it, are no longer thinking at all, just justifying. But I do think for those who have that mindset, they are not faking their belief, they really can’t see it any other way due to their delusions, or as the article pointed out, they simply can’t reason their way to smart conclusions. And I am sure you agree, the disease and stupidity of racism, or ignorant thinking, is not limited to some whites because there are certainly blacks, hispanics and asians who also have limited thinking when it comes to this area.

      Thanks for reading and responding.

    I most certainly agree.

It’s like doing a study on finding out that most Americans have feet: We’ve always known most Americans had feet…but there wasn’t really a study to support that. 🙂

It’s good that this study is out there, though. There will be someone…somewhere who will write it off as non facts…but its what everyone has been sort of whispering for ages about people who are overtly racist….and nowadays seemingly proud of that fact.

    • Earnest Harris says:

You are right Shaun that people will try to find a way to counter the study, especially since it connects the mindset to conservatives. Just read some of the comments on the original article link. Lots of ugliness. The funny thing is the people posting their silly arguments are only proving the point of the study.

This is hilarious, you guys crack me up. With your theories, if this is the case than this would also suggest that non-whites are the most prone to racism, simply because non-whites excluding perhaps Asians have much much lower IQs than whites.
