Jason Richwine Should Have His IQ Tested

I guess facts can be made to support any argument.

I guess facts can be made to support any argument.

What an idiot. Here is what one of the leading researchers at a conservative think tank wrote a few years back about Hispanic immigrants to the U.S.

[n]o one knows whether Hispanics will ever reach IQ parity with whites, but the prediction that new Hispanic immigrants will have low-IQ children and grandchildren is difficult to argue against. From the perspective of Americans alive today, the low average IQ of Hispanics is effectively permanent.

Wow. Goes to show that an education does not guarantee someone will not be an idiot.

The author of that statement, which came from a dissertation he wrote in college, though it has been shown that he still believes such drivel, is Jason Richwine, of the Heritage Foundation, one of the major opponents to immigration reform going on in Washington. No wonder Heritage is against immigration reform when they have people like Richwine working for them. Strangely, the Heritage Foundation is trying to back away from what Richwine wrote in that paper. Yet they keep him on staff and happen to agree with the implied point of his argument, that we should not let more Hispanic immigrants into the U.S.

Geez.

Here is a full article on this craziness.

The Browning of America

A changing American identity.

A changing American identity.

Saw this very interesting article in The Huffington Post:

Welcome to the new off-white America.

A historic decline in the number of U.S. whites and the fast growth of Latinos are blurring traditional black-white color lines, testing the limits of civil rights laws and reshaping political alliances as “whiteness” begins to lose its numerical dominance.

Long in coming, the demographic shift was most vividly illustrated in last November’s re-election of President Barack Obama, the first black president, despite a historically low percentage of white supporters.

It’s now a potent backdrop to the immigration issue being debated in Congress that could offer a path to citizenship for 11 million mostly Hispanic illegal immigrants. Also, the Supreme Court is deciding cases this term on affirmative action and voting rights that could redefine race and equality in the U.S.

The latest census data and polling from The Associated Press highlight the historic change in a nation in which non-Hispanic whites will lose their majority in the next generation, somewhere around the year 2043.

Despite being a nation of immigrants, America’s tip to a white minority has never occurred in its 237-year history and will be a first among the world’s major post-industrial societies. Brazil, a developing nation, has crossed the threshold to “majority-minority” status; a few cities in France and England are near, if not past that point.

The international experience and recent U.S. events point to an uncertain future for American race relations.

Read more here. I do think the next 10 years are going to see a redefining of America. But that will not come without a lot of tension and growing pains because these years will see huge changes in our make-up.

In London, Whites Are Now A Minority

A change in the guard symbolizes a bigger change.

A change in the guard symbolizes a bigger change.

America is not the only country that is in the midst of an ethnic shift from being majority white (though that change is not expected here until about 2050). In London, whites are now the minority. According to The Financial Times:

White Britons no longer make up the majority of people in London for the first time, according to the latest census data which pointed to a cosmopolitan capital increasingly divergent from the national economy around it…

The surge of immigration has been especially striking in London, where more than one in three people — 37 per cent — were born outside the UK.

Only 45 per cent of London’s population were white people of English, Scottish or Welsh heritage, according to the latest data, down from almost 60 per cent in 2001.This makes London the first UK region where white ethnic Britons have become a minority.

The top source of new migrants to England and Wales overall for the decade was India — supplanting Ireland in the decade to 2001 — while the second-biggest source was Poland. In the 2001 census, Poland did not make the top 10.

Of course this shift is about one city in England but it is a striking occurrence since London is of course the marquee city in that country.

The Australian, a leading media source down under, also reported this from the same Census news:

The results, published yesterday, also show that the number of mixed-race people has doubled to top a million for the first time.

The changing face of Britain has been highlighted during the past decade with the prominence of mixed-race sports personalities such as Lewis Hamilton and Jessica Ennis. From small-market towns such as Boston to cities such as Birmingham, many parts of the country are home to increasingly mixed communities…

The London statistics include 102,000 mixed white and Asian people; 119,000 mixed white and black Caribbean; 119,000 other mixed; 542,000 British Indian; 224,000 British Pakistani and 222,000 British Bangladeshi.

Gotta love diversity.

Obama Symbolizes What’s Great About America

He embodies the promise.

Reposted from The Huffington Post

Finally it’s over. No more debates, commercials, endless campaign speeches and subsequent news reports. No more talking heads and spinning. No more polls. The only poll that counts was the one from Tuesday night. And thank goodness the best man won. Now that it is over, after a week or so of post election analysis and celebration (at least for the Democratic side) and whining on the losing side, we can go back to being one, clearly divided nation.

Arizona Rapidly Moving Forward To The Past

Arizona Talk Show Radio Host.

Here we go again with the state of Arizona. That state really is the “new Mississippi.”

Thank goodness this week the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional several aspects of Arizona’s crazy anti-immigrant law. But last week, Arizona had a prominent radio host, Barbara Espinosa, proudly defending her right to refer to President Obama as a monkey.

Geez.

I don’t know what to say. Really.

Here is the article.

Hate Groups Continue To Grow

Hate finds new blood.

I had a feeling that strangely though President Obama’s election was historical and a major step forward, that it seemed to me, we were experiencing more ethnic stupidity than ever. It’s a combination of the Internet and the anonymity it affords and a backlash of sorts. But a new report in The New York Times backs the gut feeling  I was having.

Fed by antagonism toward President Obama, resentment toward changing racial demographics and the economic rift between rich and poor, the number of so-called hate groups and antigovernment organizations in the nation has continued to grow, according to a report released Wednesday by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The center, which has kept track of such groups for 30 years, recorded 1,018 hate groups operating last year.

The more we move ahead, the more we move back it seems. Here is the full article and report.

Arizona Really Is The New South

Doesn't look like Alabama.

You really can’t make this stuff up. Arizona is really like the new version of old Alabama when it comes to ethnic silliness and stupidity. One Arizona lawmaker, in response to another lawmaker suggesting there be some kind of Latino holiday to honor Latinos and their contributions, suggested that there may be a need for a holiday honoring Whites. Wow.

I think Sandra Bernhardt had the best response to this on Twitter. She tweeted:

Honey everyday is a holiday for white people in arizona.

Indeed. People are so funny when they say silly stuff like that. Like they don’t recognize almost all history taught in schools is from a European-American perspective. Come on people.

Here is the video on the Arizona lawmaker.

Arizona Law Is About All Of Us

Who's next?

It’s easy to think that the new Arizona anti-immigrant law (and that’s what it really is, even though they claim it’s about crime and illegal immigrants) is only about Mexicans coming over the border.

It’s not.

That law is really about all of us. This is probably one of the very best examples of that old MLK saying, “Injustice anywhere, threatens justice everywhere.” When a law says that people can be questioned, and have to prove they belong here, just based on the suspicion of a crime, that really opens the door to  a whole lot of legal ethnic profiling, not just of Mexicans and Mexican Americans, but also anybody who looks like other, or for that matter, anyone who simply looks “suspicious,” which means a whole lot of different things to different people.

Frankly, I can’t help but think part of this is just the outgrowth of right wing anger at Barack Obama. If they can’t touch him, they’re going to try to make life miserable for anybody else who is “other.” I’m not surprised that this law came about during this time when there is so much contempt from the right about Obama and the face of our country looking a bit different these days than it has for its entire existence up to now.

But whatever the reason, all of us need to stand with the most obviously targeted group, Hispanics, on this one. Because if they can succeed with this kind of initiative for one group, they will most definitely find other ways to make issues with others that don’t fit the old mold. This isn’t an affront to Hispanics, it is really an affront to all of us. And we are all at risk.
